DC CEUs - What's Required???

Doctors of Chiropractic in the State of Alaska are required to complete a minimum of 32 continuing education credits over the two years that they have been licensed.  Current renewals are due 12/31/2016.  So.... over the calendar years of 2015 + 2016, each DC should have completed at least 32 CEUs.  More then 32 is GREAT!  Less than 32 is bad...  Each DC is required to complete at least 2 CEUs in Ethics, 2 CEUs in Documentation/Coding, 2 CEUs in CPR, and 8 CEUs in Radiology.  You can have more in each subject category but you must meet these minimum subject matter requirements.  DCs can complete no more than 16 credits online or through distance learning.  These DCs pay $600 for their renewal fee for 2017/2018.

Doctors of Chiropractic in the State of Alaska who received their first initial license in 2015 are only required to complete 16 credit hours over the calendar years of 2015 and 2016 but are still subject to the full subject matter requirements of at least 2 CEUs in Ethics, 2 CEUs in Documentation/Coding2 CEUs in CPR, and 8 CEUs in Radiology.  These DCs pay $300 for their renewal fee for 2017/2018.

Doctors of Chiropractic in the State of Alaska who received their first initial license in 2016 are not required to complete continuing education with their renewal.  These DCs are still required to complete a renewal application and pay the $300 renewal fee for 2017/2018.

Case Study:  Dr. Dan has completed an in-person advanced certification where he earned 50 clinical credits.  While 50>32, Dr. Dan has NOT met the continuing education requirements for renewal.  He must still complete the 2 hours in Ethics, 2 hours in Doc/Coding, 2 hours in CPR and 8 hours in Radiology.

Case Study:  Dr. Mike has completed an online nutrition certification program totaling 60 credits.  His online classes have earned him 4 credits in Ethics, 4 credits in Documentation, 10 credits in Radiology and 42 clinical credits.  While Dr. Mike has met some of his subject matter requirement minimums, Dr. Mike has NOT met the continuing education requirements for renewal.  He can only count 16 of the 60 online credits he has earned.  Before he can renew his DC license, he must become CPR certified by taking CPR from a nationally recognized CPR provider and complete at least 12 in-person credits.  (CPR for Health Care Providers course by the American Heart Association earns you 4 credits - 2 CPR + 1 BLS + AED).
