This course is the third installment of the DACO Program in Alaska!  The Alaska Chiropractic Society, in partnership with the University of Bridgeport, launched the Diplomate, Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists (DACO) program in Alaska in 2018 with our first session at the ACS 2018 Convention on October 4, 2018 and the second session February 9+10, 2019.

Even if earning a Diplomate isn’t your goal, you will receive 14 hours of CE credit in Alaska for each completed course in 2019.  Have your CCSP already? Earn your DACO faster! The ACO permits 50 hours of credit for CCSP.  Missed the October, 2018 first installment?  No worries - those 8 hours can be added to the online hours instead.

The ten-hour clinical presentation will discuss the history of the whiplash injury, previous and current scientific studies, which will demonstrate the homogeneity and complexity of the whiplash associated disorder. This didactic presentation will engage and enable you to easily implement the recommendations that will improve quality of care for your patients suffering with whiplash injuries. You will be provided a list of reference articles the support the presentation with peer-reviewed evidence.

The four-hour radiology case-based presentation will focus on the more common spinal and extremity fractures, dislocations, subluxations following trauma with an emphasis on cases that are often misdiagnosed or easily overlooked.  The importance of correlating mechanism of injury, patient presentation, patient age, and radiographic soft tissue abnormalities will be underscored in the search for subtle or occult injuries.  Review of appropriate special radiographic views and/or specialized imaging for confirmation, follow up, or management/treatment determination will be reviewed.  Normal variations that mimic fractures will also be included.  Time permitting, there will be a challenge of the unknowns.

The final session will be for a total of 14 hours (clinical) on April 13-14, 2019 with Tim Bertelsman DC, CCSP, FACO with Best Practices for Managing Low Back Pain and Lower Extremity Disorders.
