The Alaska Board of Massage Therapists recently posted Massage Therapy Licensure FAQ (May 2015) that may be helpful to chiropractic offices with questions regarding the NEW licensing requirements for Massage Therapists effective July 1, 2015.   It's important to know that regulations are still being written regarding this process and that the application for licensure is not available yet.

Here's the signed bill that became law in November, 2014

The AK Board of Massage Therapists website is located at

Their licensing examiner is:

They currently have proposed regulations changes regarding their licensing fees open for Public Comment.  All comments must be sent to the division's regulations specialist, Jun Maiquis, in writing before the public comment period closes at 4:30 pm on June 1.  Mr. Maiquis can be reached via email at

Who approves the required 4 hours of safety education?  What is the definition of "current" CPR certification?  Which accreditation standards are acceptable to the Board?

The Alaska State Legislature granted the Board of Massage Therapists to authority to adopt these standards in regulation.  No standard can be set outside of the public regulations process.  It is expected that the board's regulations will be posted for public comment in May 2015.

Take-away on all of this - it's still being determined....  I will try and keep everyone updated as things come my way.
