UPDATE - 5/16/2019

I contacted the State of Alaska to inquire as to the status of the regulations to support the Health Care Price Transparency Law (SB105/HB123) that was signed into law 8/6/2018 with an effective date of 1/1/2019.  Here's the response the Alaska Chiropractic Society received.

At this time, you are expected to comply with the Requested Good Faith Estimate section of the law, but no penalty will be imposed as implementation regulations are still not in place. https://aws.state.ak.us/OnlinePublicNotices/Notices/View.aspx?id=192498

As to the posting of the 10 most common fees charged in your office in your waiting room and on your website - implementation regulations are still not in place for this and no penalty will be imposed.  https://aws.state.ak.us/OnlinePublicNotices/Notices/View.aspx?id=192498

The Society will send an email notifying ACS Members when the draft regulations are available for public review as well as when the regulations have been passed and implemented.

Good afternoon Ms. Ryan,

Thank you for your question. I appreciate your interest in the regulations for AS 18.23.400.

For your reference, the health care cost transparency law’s language can be found here: http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis/statutes.asp#18.23.400.

We still do not have a regulations package in place to provide a standard path of compliance for Alaska’s health care providers and facilities to meet the requirements of Alaska's Health Care Price Transparency Law. Because of that, we’ve posted the following statement here:

https://aws.state.ak.us/OnlinePublicNotices/Notices/View.aspx?id=192498

We will not impose any penalty or enforcement action on a health care provider or facility until implementing regulations are in place. The regulations package is moving through the process. The next step is a public review.

Let me know if you  want to be contacted when the draft regulations are available for public review.

I know the pace of developing these regulations has been frustrating. I ask for folks’ continued patient while we work through the regulations process.

Thank you again,

Clint
