On January 24,2020, Lt. Governor Kevin Meyer signed the long awaited regulations for SB69 with an effective date of February 23, 2020. See Public Notice 121094 .  This gave us the final written regulations detailing what, when, where, and how to go about the process of certification for Chiropractic Clinical Assistants (CCA).

In the regulations, staff with over 2000 hours of experience had the first approaching deadline of 08/23/2020. In late February/early March, ACS was getting ready to roll out training and testing schedules when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. With offices shortening hours, laying off staff and/or closing, we knew the August deadline was going to be a difficult one for offices to meet and lobbied the Board of Chiropractic Examiners in March at their emergency meeting to extend the regulations deadline. The BOCE agreed and brought it into their regulations project that was put out for public comment in May, 2020 and finalized.  The deadline was extended to match the same as staff with less than 2000 hours of experience - 02/23/2021. See Public Notice 123846.  New hires with no experience (after 02/23/2021) will have one year from the date of hire to become certified. Please see the regulations for full details.

All currently employed chiropractic clinical assistants - those staff who have hands-on patient contact - are required to be certified by 02/23/2021. The two recognized certifying entities are the Chiropractic Therapy Assistant (CTA) Program administered by the Tennessee Chiropractic Association and the Certified Chiropractic Clinical Assistant (CCCA) Program administered by the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards (FCLB).

Current CPR certification is also a requirement for certification of a CCA.
