The National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and
Life University Launch Computer-Based Testing
Greeley, Colo. The National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) successfully launched computer-based testing (CBT) at Life University, Atlanta, Georgia, during the fall administration of the Part I examination on September 12-13, 2014. This is the first time any part of the Written Exams has been administered in this format.
Previously, all Part I exams were administered in paper and pencil format along with Parts II and III. This successful launch of CBT at Life means that protocols are now in place that may be adapted and offered for use at all accredited colleges of chiropractic.
NBCE President Dr. Donna Craft commented, "For well over 10years, NBCE has periodically evaluated the feasibility and advisability of delivering our exams on computer. While it has been feasible, the cost, security, and convenience of administering paper and pencil exams on campus could not be matched by CBT.Recent advancements in technology enabled us to develop a unique CBT platform that could solve the advisability concerns. Our goals were to keep the exam administration on campus as a convenience to students, to maintain exam security, and to still have an affordable exam. We have met those goals.
The inaugural administration of CBT at Life University was championed by former NBCE President and current District V Director and Life alumnus Dr. Norman Ouzts, Jr., NBCE Treasurer Dr. Salvatore LaRusso, Life University President Dr. Guy Reikeman, and Life Trustee Dr. Kevin Fogarty. Dr. Ouzts expressed NBCEs appreciation by saying,We want to thank Life University for their assistance in helping make CBT a reality. We now have a proven template that can be taken to other chiropractic campus' test sites. This would not have been possible without their commitment.
In its new CBT model, NBCE provides the same exam quality and content as previous paper and pencil exams. In theCBT format, each student is individually connected, via a secured internet connection, to a dedicated, secure testing environment housed by the NBCE.
Headquartered in Greeley, Colo., the NBCE is the international testing organization for the chiropractic profession. Established in 1963, the NBCE develops, administers and scores legally defensible, standardized written and practical examinations for candidates seeking chiropractic licensure throughout the United States and in several foreign countries.
